The 9th edition of the Africa Economy Builders Awards (Les Bâtisseurs de l’Economie Africaine) was held on April 27, 2018 in Abidjan. The biggest gathering of men and women who make Africa has been marked by the distinction of personalities from 30 countries.
One of the highlights was the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award (the highest distinction of the Builders) to three emblematic figures of African business: Jean Kacou Diagou (President of Groupe NSIA), Samuel Dossou-Aworet (President of Petrolin Group, President of the African Business Roundtable) and Daphne Mashile-Nkosi, CEO of Kalagadi Maganese.
In front of more than 500 guests, these three titans of the economic chessboard of the continent were celebrated on the scale of their success. An unique moment. African Guarantee Fund, a leading pan-African institution for SME development, has won the Honorary Award of Performance.
Undeniable talents, and not least, were also honored. Tara Fela-Durotoye, CEO of House of Tara International, won the Most Outstanding Business Woman of the Year Award. The "Most Inspiring Business Woman of the Year" Award was presented to Salma Salifu, CEO of Dignity DTRT. Founder & President of Teach South Africa, former President of Business Unity South Africa and former Southern Africa President of Deloitte, Futhi Mtoba was awarded the Most Outstanding Leadership Woman of the Year Award.
Teddy Daka, PDG d’Anys Limited et Président d’Aurecon, a reçu ‘’ The Top CEO of the Year ‘’. Le ‘’ Grand Prix du Manager de l’Année ‘’ a été attribué à Assahoré Konan Jacques, Directeur Général du Trésor et de la Comptabilité Publique (Côte d’Ivoire). Le Prix d’Honneur de la Promotion de l’Entrepreneuriat a été attribué à Abdellah El Fergui, Président de la Confédération Marocaine de TPE-PME. L’entrepreneur Alain Kouadio a été auréolé du Grand Prix de l’Entrepreneur de l’Année.
Teddy Daka, CEO of Ansys Limited and President of Aurecon, received ‘’The Top CEO of the Year‘’. The ''Grand Prize of the Manager of the Year'' was awarded to Assahoré Konan Jacques, Managing Director of Treasury and Public Accounts (Côte d'Ivoire). The Award of Honor for the Promotion of Entrepreneurship was awarded to Abdellah El Fergui, President of the Moroccan Confederation of VSE-SME. The entrepreneur Alain Kouadio, President of Kaydan Group, was awarded the Entrepreneur of the Year Grand Prize.
Yao Dodzi Dogbo, CEO of Cergi SA and Jean-Luc Konan, CEO of the Cofina Group, respectively received the Grand Prize of New Technologies and the Grand Prize of Inclusive Finance. The credit of Danièle Sassou Nguesso, Founder & President of Fondation Sounga (Grand Prize of Social Entrepreneurship), Réki Ibrahim Yacoubou, CEO of Asusu Holding (Women's Entrepreneurship Grand Prize), Fomba Trawally, CEO of National Toiletries Incorporated (Best Self-Made Man Award) and Mamou Doukouré, CEO of Socotrad and Douk'Oil (Special Prize for Female Entrepreneurship) was hailed. An Award has been presented to Librairie de France Group (the Conquering Company's Honorary Award), which is celebrating its 80th birthday in 2018, Maférima Diarrassouba,Managing Director of the SDPC – Société des Palaces de Cocody - (Special Prize for the Woman Manager) and Edouard Fonh-Gbei, Managing Director of CNTIG (Special Award of the Innovative Manager).
The Act 9 of the Africa Economy Builders Awards also brought to light talented and determined revelations. This is the case of Madeleine Taylor Mendy, CEO of Scandin-Africa Group ApS (Best Startup Award), Edem d'Almeida, CEO of Africa Global Recycling (Special Award of the Entrepreneur of the Green Economy), Aîssata Diakité, CEO of Zabbaan Holding (Made In Africa Special Award), Fodé Kaera Yattabaré, CEO of Kaera Cosmetics (Best Young Industrialist Award).
As for Vaino Nghipondoka, Chairman & CEO of Profile Investments Holdings, he won '' The Emerging Businessman Award ''. While the Desmond Amunyela & Lazarus Jacobs tandem, Co-Founders of Paragon Investment Holdings, has been honored with '' The Best Business Duo Award ''
The next edition of the Africa Economy Builders Awards, the tenth, will take place in Abidjan on Friday, April 26, 2019.
